I don’t play golf at other places. I have a loyalist who does that for me. Each year, he gets locked in on a particular issue, and his reports always have a common denominator. It’s been green conditions, it’s been restaurant menus, staffing, you know… all the usual stuff. For whatever reason, this past year was golf carts.
I don’t want to say golf carts are taken for granted, but let’s dive deep. Every 4 years, I replace our golf carts. It’s customer facing, we think it makes an impression. There has to be some value in that. We have a roof on our cart barn. Does it make a difference, sure it does. They are simply less susceptible to the elements. There has to be some value in that. We choose electric. Most courses cannot choose electric due to logistical set-ups. This course has silence, there has to be some value in that. We have continuous paved cart path. It’s a smoother ride, void of dust, and useful after rain, there has to be some value in that. I employ children and retirees who wash the carts thoroughly after every use. Not once a week, not once a month, most times… twice a day. There has to be some value in that.
My informant summed it up this way: “Carts at other places are in no numerical order, randomly parked by those who used them last. Glove boxes dirty, sticky and most especially dusty. Seats ripped, straps frayed, many show their age. They are loud. Nick, you simply would not allow what I have seen”. There has to be some value in that.
