Good Partner

We lie in bed the night before a round of golf full of “wants”. Want to play good. Want to validate the time you spent practicing. Want to relax. Want to get your money’s worth. Want to have a good attitude. Want to beat someone. Maybe there are things you don’t want. Don’t want to lose balls. Don’t want to hit embarrassing shots. Don’t want the bev cart girl to think you are cheap or creepy. Have you ever “wanted” to simply be a good playing partner?

As a golf pro, I’m the Dr. Phil of bad golf relationships. Not a day goes by where people can’t help but tell me every person they don’t like playing with, and the attribute that makes them a pain in the ass. Do people come into my office and say you suck at golf… never. Do they say you suck as a person, yes. What would it be like if you simply approached every round with the correct context of important tasks. Play well, no one gives a shit. That’s low on the list. Being a good foursome partner, that legacy lasts forever. I would put that high on the list. Remember, you don’t know what you don’t know. Your ineptitude in attitude, empathy, sportsmanship, speed, inquiry, compassion, etiquette, and joy might be keeping your phone notifications silent. Don’t be the fourth guy the group always settles for, be the first everyone invites. If you are not introspective enough to know how you stand with others, just ask your course Pro, he can give you your complete bio.
