Make a few wrong clicks on Instagram and you will end up in an endless algorithm of entrepreneurs telling you to start your own business. Maybe you have a skill, but you can’t manage money. Maybe you can manage money, but no one wants your product. Maybe you have skills, products, and you understand money, but you can’t market anything. If you want to see how you would be running your own business, put an item on Facebook Marketplace. It’s a great way to prove you can/can’t handle owning your own business.
Are you posting something that has no value? Have you done a horrible job explaining it? Do your pictures suck? Have you priced it totally wrong? Are you terrible at replying when someone inquires? Do you become even more aloof the more someone shows interest? Do you set up barriers to getting paid? Are you totally inflexible in pick-up arrangements? If you can’t smoothly sell a snowblower or rack of dumbbells on Marketplace, I also have an entrepreneurial opinion…don’t become a business owner. That’s a sure sign you’re not cut out for it.
I can’t stand buying things on Marketplace. Think of all the people that digest my online sales pitch, inquire about price, check availability, and drive here for golf. I make the 4 hour exchange… their money for my golf product, and I hope they leave satisfied. I do it hundreds of times a day. To everyone out there, it’s not as easy as Facebook would have you believe.
