14th On The List

I’m usually very good about citing my sources, but I can’t remember who professed that golf magazine rankings of great courses are merely price lists. I decided it would be interesting to simulate the theory.

I pretended to walk to my mail box and retrieved my latest imaginary issue of Golf Digest. Awesome, it just so happens to be favorite edition, the one that annually tells me the 100 best modern golf courses built after 1960. I grab a beverage, head for the couch, and thumb through quickly looking for the list and the breathtaking accompanying photos. Pebble Beach, Whistling Straits, Sand Hills, Friar’s Head, Pacific Dunes, nothing new here, these courses are always the crème de la creme. Wait… holy shit, Royal St. Patrick’s Golf Links has moved from absolutely no where to 14th on the BEST MODERN List! Are you kidding me? When did this happen? 14th, I bet I could get $200 a round once everyone sees my ranking in this magazine. Same course. Same dipshit owner. 5 times the money. I guess my source was right… rankings are actually price lists!
