“73.85 for this dump, you are seriously going to charge me 73.85 to play”. As I sat at my desk I could hear these words raining down on my passive high school shop assistant. As this blow hard walked toward the door he had a parting shot for two unassuming gentlman entering to pay their fees, “this place thinks it’s Augusta National, enjoy over paying”. Not done, he would proceed to the cart below and give a bit more to our starter. Lao Tsu once said “Those who know do not speak. Those who speak do not know.” 183 rounds into the day, 25,000 rounds into the season, this guy had the value proposition of golf figured out, and he wasn’t bashful.
I broke one of my rules that day. I did nothing. One of my pillars is…anyone who brings hostile misery gets shown the door. I want to apologize to the two gentlemen who were paired up with this guy…and most likely listened to his endless diatribe about the value of money. I failed you. It was my job to get rid of people destined to ruin the experience of the unwitting, and I failed. As you know, that next round is on me. I’m sorry, it won’t happen again.
My kids would come home from school and tell me how their teachers would spend the whole day dealing with the bad kids. In the meantime, they “lost” the good kids. There has to be a better way. Here, we only care about the good kids, other than my slip up.
Should have told him to leave. Your course is my favorite in the area. I treat myself 2-3 times a year. Its a bit pricey for me, but I don’t bitch about it.
I golf many courses thru the year, RSPLG is one of the best public golf courses in the state. Course is always in the best shape, the friendly staff and great food keep me coming back as well.
